Paddle Steamer Monarch Refit

The following pictures of P S Monarch show the work being undertaken to return the steamer to servicesailing from Wareham

The boiler is due back within the next month from being overhauled and repaired with new tubes fitted.

The engine is currently being modified so as the main drive shaft also drives the Water Feed Pump and Air Pump. These will save the need for an on board diesel generator which was used previously.

An alternator with drive from the main engine has been fitted. This will charge the batteries that will drive the bow and stern thrusters and lighting throughout the vessel.

A new bow thruster has been fitted as the previous one was seized.

The saloon has been repaired and new glazing fitted and is currently being painted.

A WC is in the process of being fitted, the type used in a camper van.

Various modifications have been made to the deck and deck plates with a drainage system, in an attempt to reduce water ingress into the bottom of the hull.

It is hoped the vessel will be ready to go into service in early May 2013 and it is Planned to offer cruises down the River Frome from Wareham just to where the river enters Poole Harbour.
